Economic uncertainty and labour shortages are influencing a growing demand for temporary staff. However, company budgets are tight and competition between temporary staff providers is high, which squeezes down profit margins. Recruitment agencies must attract the best talent, fill vacancies fast, and focus on client and candidate retention. Recruitment technology is the key to this efficiency.
The latest data from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) points to employer’s confidence in the economy and their ability to invest in their businesses falling in the last quarter of 2022. Anticipated demand for temporary staff is rising though, at a rate of a 1% for the first quarter of 2023, and up 4% for the remainder of the year.
"In the face of high levels of uncertainty and labour shortages, it is no surprise that temporary workers are playing a bigger role in companies’ plans,” says Neil Carberry, Chief Executive of the REC. He adds: “Our world-leading temporary work market remains vital to many companies. On any given day there are 1.2 million people who are working via a recruitment business on a contract or temporary assignment.”
Meeting Temporary Staffing Challenges
Whether you are a recruitment agency supplying handfuls of highly skilled workers, or a provider of hundreds of shift workers many of your challenges remain the same.
At your core, you must attract the right volume and quality of staff and be able to meet the demand of your clients quickly. On an hourly and daily basis you have to work hard to keep both candidates and clients happy and in a recession there is no margin for error.
Deploying the right recruitment technology within your business is critical to ensure that:
- New applicants are vetted and on-boarded quickly.
- Candidates are contacted swiftly when a new vacancy or shift needs to be filled.
- Communication between recruitment staff and candidates and clients is fast and smooth.
- Replacements are sourced immediately to compensate any no shows, at any time.
- Timesheet hours are collated accurately, and payroll performed to perfection, every time.
Recruitment Technology Isn’t Just a Recruitment CRM
Recruitment technology can take many forms. It’s anything from the off-the-shelf recruitment CRM that you have in place to the inbox management and job board posting systems you have initiated. Recruitment technology encompasses how candidate records are moved into your CRM, searched and stored, and how your office stores its critical data and communicates.
Here at Recruitment Software Solutions, we see a reoccurring problem. All this recruitment technology, the systems you have in place, usually doesn’t integrate fully. Your daily workflows often rely on two, three or more disparate systems. The time it takes your staff to move themselves, or the data you rely on, from one system to another is destroying your efficiency and your profit margins.
You may have a temporary candidate that applies using a job board, their CV arrives via email and the registration happens elsewhere. Their data must be entered into one or more systems in order to be placed into a booking, allocated a timesheet, and then payrolled. This is just one process example.
There’s a way to streamline all your daily workflows. How your recruitment agency works and what systems you have will determine this, and each agency is different.
Recruitment Software Solutions is also different. When you contact us we’ll first take time to thoroughly understand your niche business and your existing processes, systems, and challenges.
